Mudrambiance: A Drone That Listens to Your Hands

Mudrambiance is an ambient instrument you play with your hands. Hold a mudra in front of your webcam and its chord slowly fades into a warm 432 Hz drone. Let go and it fades back out. Each layer is tuned to what the gesture is traditionally meant to do: Prithvi (earth) is low and grounding, Surya (sun) is bright, Anjali (palms together) opens into a full, still chord.

There are 16 one-hand mudras (Gyan, Prithvi, Varuna, Shuni, Surya, Apana, Prana, Vayu, Shunya, Rudra, Kubera, Hridaya, Abhaya, Varada, Mushti and Adi) and 2 two-hand mudras (Anjali and Hakini).

Live mode plays a layer only while you hold the gesture, so it feels like an instrument. Build mode keeps each layer after you let go, so you can stack a whole soundscape and then just sit with it. Raising your hands brightens the sound and lowering them softens it, and every mudra also has a keyboard key if you want to play without the camera.

The hand tracking runs on your own device with Google’s MediaPipe Hand Landmarker, so the camera feed never leaves your browser. Getting it to feel calm took the most work: the landmarks are smoothed so the labels don’t flicker, layers crossfade instead of clicking in, and the whole thing pauses itself when you leave the tab. The pad sound is modeled on the drone engine from my subliminal tool ST8ofMIND.

I built it with Claude Code. Headphones recommended.
